Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Ruth Joan Bader Ginsburg was nominated by President William Jefferson Clinton as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Following confirmation by the U.S. Senate, 97-3, Ginsburg was commissioned August 5, 2003, and took the oath of office August 10, 1993. Ginsburg is the second female Justice to serve on the Supreme Court. [1]


Ruth Joan Bader Ginsburg was born March 15, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York. [2]

In 2004, Forbes magazine selected Ginsburg — "former general counsel to the American Civil Liberties Union and a longtime law professor" — as the 7th most powerful woman in the world. [3]
